WHAT CAN YOU DO?

At home:

Donate your clothing:

Donating your clothes is a great way to recycle used and unwanted clothing while also helping those in need. According to the Salvation Army:

  •  An estimated £140 million worth (350,000 tonnes) of used clothing goes to waste in landfills every year

  • Clothing made from natural materials like cotton, wool and leather will produce a range of greenhouse gases while biodegrading in landfill sites

  • For every tonne of textiles reused rather than sent into landfill carbon dioxide emissions – a major cause of global warming – are reduced by 7 tonnes

  • Extending the average life of clothes by nine months would save £5 billion in resources used to supply, launder and dispose of clothing

There's never a bad time to go through your closet and get rid of items you just don't need anymore, and plenty of places you can take them to. Here is a list of charities accepting donations.

Recycle your used cooking oil:

Every year, tens of thousands of liters of cooking oil is used in Hungary. Typically, you only see oil being collected and recycled from large restaurants and canteens, but MOL has now made it possible for individuals and families to do the same.

MOL filling stations stations have installed special storage containers at over 100 different locations throughout Hungary, where you can safely dispose of your used cooking oil. Not only is this process more environmentally friendly than just dumping the oil down your drain, but the company is using the collected oil for producing biofuel.

How does it work?

After collecting your used cooking oil in a suitable container, simply bring it to an attendant at one of the specified locations.

RECYCLE YOUR USED BATTERIES

Did you know that you're not supposed to throw away your old batteries? They need to be properly disposed of, and mixing them with your regular trash is harmful for the environment! Thankfully, Corvinus has 2 designated bins intended for the used items, located in front of the elevators on the ground floor of the E building. So, next time you think of throwing your batteries in the trash, don't, and instead, drop them off in the proper receptacles at the university.
